About National Youth EnvirOlympics Challenge 2009
Started in 2008, The National Youth EnvirOlympics Challenge (NYEC) is an environmental challenge that aims to raise public awareness to the forthcoming environmental concerns in Singapore as well as educate youths and public about the values of leading environmental-friendly lifestyles so as to create a greener environment and also to inspire youths to create a proactive and learning environment through physical and intellectual interaction.
NYEC 2009 will be full of challenging and fun-filled activities to spread the message of incorporating healthy GREEN habits into people’s lifestyles. It will be held at Vivocity.
A brief description of our events is as follows:-
En-mazing Race is a an amazing race where an estimated 200 teams of 5 Secondary students will be playing environmental games at stations located nation-wide and interacting with members of the public to urge them to play a part in environmental conservation efforts.
En-Art Contest comprises of an art contest for primary school students and a photography contest for secondary and tertiary school students, based on a pre-released environmental theme.
Enviro-Cyclethon is an adventurous overnight bike hike for tertiary students to cycle around Singapore and savour the delicious night delights whilst running a torch relay. The torch will then be passed to the Guest-of-Honour in time for the flag off of the En-Mazing race the next morning.
The Event Organising Committee (EOC) will be organizing an attempt to break the world record of The Largest Piece of Handmade Recycled Paper”, named Project Papyrus, in an effort to create environmental awareness amongst the public. The paper will be processed after the attempt and distributed to bring across the “green” message that a little effort in conservation, makes a difference to the Earth.
