Common FAQs for Cycle-thon

1. What is the whole route for the cycling event?
The starting point is East Coast Park. We will be heading to various places for supper, namely Bedok 85, Geylang, Lau Pa Sat and Buona Vista (in order). In between we'll be passing by the Esplanade, CBD and Redhill area.

2. Are we allowed to rest whenever we want along the route (other than the food checkpoints)?
Yes, definitely, if participants feel tired, need water or require medical attention. Participants can ask their facilitators to stop the group at any point of time.

3. Is there any items that we are required to bring along (Eg, helmet, first aid kit, etc)?
Helmets are optional. It is okay to go without helmets. If participants have their own helmets, they can bring them along. If they require helmets but do not have their own personal helmets, they can rent them from the bicycle shop at their own costs. First aid kits are provided by us.

4. Are there any strict attire code for the cycling?
Participants are required to wear covered shoes. T-shirts and shorts are fine, but bright coloured shirts (e.g. white, orange etc) are preferred so that motorists can see the bikers clearly. Blinkers are installed on the front and back of bicycles to also ensure that bikers can be seen clearly on the roads.

5. Where is the ending point of the route?
The cyclethon will end at VivoCity, where the opening ceremony for the National Youth EnvirOlympics Challenge will take place.

6. What if we are unable to finish the route on time?
We have allocated ample time for participants to complete the route by 7am, just in time for the opening ceremony at VivoCity. If participants are not fit enough to complete the route, the safety vehicle will pick them and their bikes up.

7. Is it possible to mail you the forms? If yes, may i have the mailing address?
You can mail all completed forms to this address:

ATTN: WONG WAI KUAN
APT BLK 639
ANG MO KIO AVENUE 6
#07-5051
SINGAPORE 560639

8. How do we make payment?
Payment can be made via cash or cheque. Once you have mailed in the forms, we will contact you again if you want to pay by cash. For cheque payments, please mail the cheque(s) to the address stated in the previous point. Please double-cross your cheque(s) and address it to "Ci Yuan Community Centre Youth Executive Committee".

9. How do I contact the organizers?
You can drop us an email regarding the event at eric.nyec@gmail.com

10. What time do we report on the day itself?
Participants are required to arrive at 8pm at East Coast Park. More details regarding the exact location will be released to the participants 2 weeks before the event.

For the safety issues,

1. Will there be marshalls along the way?
Road marshalls will be stationed along the route, especially at right hand turns and road junctions with heavy traffic.

2. How will we be attended to if anyone is injured along the way?
Please inform your facilitators immediately if anyone is injured. Each group will have a first aid kit. If participant is unfit to continue cycling, facilitators will arrange for the safety vehicle to pick the casualty up. Paramedics and first-aid personnel will be stationed in the safety vehicle and will respond immediately to anyone injured along the way.

3. What type of terrain are we riding on (eg closed road meant only for participants to cycle or just along the road, etc)?
All participants will be riding on roads. Roads will not be closed for participants. Participants will keep to the left side of the road. Safety vehicles stationed at the front and back of the entire group will serve to warn motorists of a large group of cyclists in between.

4. Are we going to cycle as 1 big group with all the participants or splitted up in our individual groups?
Participants will be split up into their individual groups of 8, accompanied by 2 facilitators. There will be sufficient gap in between the groups, so that we will not experience congestions at food checkpoints. It is also easier to monitor individual groups of 8 rather than a large group of around 100 participants.

5. Will there be traffic along the way?
Yes, cyclists will be cycling on the roads and they will be exposed to live traffic along the route. Participants are advised to exercise caution at ALL times and have to keep to the left side of the road unless otherwise stated due to the condition of the traffic.

6. What happens of my bike breaks down along the route?
In the event of malfunction of bike, we have spare bikes onboard the safety vehicle. A switch of bike will be made on the scene as soon as possible.
